But you can have some acceleration with the open source driver I guess it’d need a non-free firmware, is there any problem xti at boot, if yes try install firmware-linux. The system is only with the “genericg linux driver OS default and the “xserver-xorg-video-radeon” I think it’s “xserver-xorg-video-ati” are installed and updated.
The 3D acceleration is not important to me. But, just stay away from ATI cards and Linux, they don’t have very good drivers.

Do not use Sax2 when the proprietary Linux Graphics Driver is installed. And as far as i remember the X worked fine under Linux, including 3D support. Check the manpage of the Radeon driver for advanced options. The randomly variable terminology in the ATI site is a nightmare, and I see no solution.
